Premios Goya: encuentros y ausencias

La primera cosa que nos sorprendió de la gala de los Goya, fue que la gala estaba cerca del aeropuerto y que la fiesta era en el centro. Inmediatamente sospechamos que cruzar Madrid en la misma noche y para la misma ocasión tenía que ser para despistar a los que protestaron hace un par de años.

Pero la mejor parte de la noche fue cuando nos encontramos en la misma entrada con Javier Bardem, Álvaro Longoria y su socia, Lilly Hartley, la productora de NY. Fue bonito porque hemos trabajado juntos en diferentes ocasiones: Scott con Javier en Los Fantasmas de Goya y Álvaro Longoria enseña Producción en fundación first team. Fue una alegría cuando ganaron el Goya al mejor documental. Si alguien quiere cambiar el mundo para mejor, no debería ser criticado sino aplaudido, nos guste o no. Esto es para celebrar la libertad de expresión.

La persona que eché de menos fue Alfonso Sánchez y su equipo que, en nuestra opinión, el mundo sigue siendo suyo. Creo que, en reflexión, debemos apreciar lo bueno y aspirar a ser siempre excelentes en lo que hacemos. Y luchar contra la mediocridad que es parte de nuestra responsabilidad como embajadores de cultura. Como Bayona (premiado como mejor director) dijo, hay que "hacer películas pequeñas, medianas y grandes". El público quiere ver cine. No les defraudemos nunca.

P.S.: Para todos los que piensan que ir a los Goya significa que nadamos en la abundancia y en el lujo, mi pelo y maquillaje fue diseñado por mi estilista y amiga personal Magdalena Font, mis joyas eran prestadas por Carrera y Carrera, los zapatos por Pedro García y mi vestido por Alberto Makali,
pero mis medias y ropa interior las compré en El Corte Inglés. Todo lo devolvió Magdalena el lunes pero tengo guardadas las medias...

The first thing that struck us about the Goya's was that the gala was near the airport and the party was in the centre of Madrid. We had the suspicion that making it an hour and a half journey on public transport or an expensive taxi ride was entirely to keep protests to a minimum and the riffraff quiet.

The best part of the night when we bumped into Javier Bardem, Álvaro Longoria and Lilly Hartley, his New York associate. Nice because we had all worked together in one capacity or another: Scott had worked with Javier on the Goya's Ghosts and Álvaro Longoria teaches production at first team.
They were both genuinely gracious and unpretentious. It was nice to see when they won the award for best documentary. If anyone wants to change the world for the better whomever they are is not to be criticised, but too be applauded whether we like it or not. That is to celebrate freedom of expression.

The person and people we missed most were Alfonso Sánchez and his team, for who still "el mundo sigue siendo suyo". Reflecting upon all of this, aspiring to excellence in all we do is part of our responsibility as ambassadors of culture.  As Bayona (winner of best director) said "we have do small, medium and large films"  The public wants to watch movies, we should never be embarrassed to give them what they want. Film-makers become film-makers because they were and still are part of the public, they shouldn't forget that.

PS: For those that think we swim in abundance and luxury, my hair and make-up was done by the stylist and my friend Magdalena Font, my jewels were lent to me by Carrerra y Carrera, my shoes lent to me by Pedro Garcia and my dress was lent to me by Alberto Makali, however my tights and knickers were bought by me in El Corte Ingles. I returned it all the next day but I kept the tights.
